Erdinger Alkoholfrei 0.5%
Updated: Oct 17
Erdinger Alkoholfrei occupies an unusual position in the non-alcoholic market — it is one of the few drinks in this category that actively promotes its isotonic credentials, marketed towards athletes and active recovery. Whether that means anything to you or not, what it delivers in the glass is a genuinely distinctive wheat beer with character that is incredibly refreshing.

Ingredients: water, malted wheat (50%), barley malt, hop extract, yeast.
The pour is cloudy and pale golden with a soft white head — exactly what a hefeweizen should look like. The aroma leads with banana and a gentle spice, classic wheat beer territory. On the palate there is a grainy, slightly sweet malt base with caramel undertones and a faint fruity acidity. It is heavier in body than most alcohol-free beers, which works in its favour — it feels like it belongs in a glass rather than a can.
The one caveat is sweetness. It leans marginally sweet by the end of a 500ml bottle, which can make a second less appealing than the first. It already features in the Pendulum of Change seven-day challenge list for good reason — it earns its place there.
