Adnams takes its full-strength Ghost Ship 4.5% pale ale and removes the alcohol using reverse osmosis — the same beer, just dealcoholised — which gives it a head start over drinks brewed specifically without alcohol from the outset.

Ingredients: water, malted barley, wheat, hops, yeast.

The pour is amber and clear with a soft white head. The aroma is the highlight — elderflower, citrus, a faint gooseberry note that is distinctly English despite the American hops. On the palate it is hoppy and slightly bitter with a rye spice warmth underneath that gives it more complexity than you expect. It does not try to be a lager. It knows what it is.

At 500ml it offers more volume than the Lucky Saint format and is priced comparably. Available widely on supermarket shelves and on tap at a growing number of pubs.
