Heineken 0.0
Updated: Oct 17
Heineken 0.0 is the most widely available alcohol-free lager in the UK, which is either its greatest asset or its greatest limitation depending on what you are looking for. It is reliably present — service stations, corner shops, pubs with limited non-alcoholic options — which makes it more useful in practice than drinks that taste better but are harder to find.

Ingredients: water, malted barley, hop extract, natural flavourings.
The pour mimics its full-strength sibling well enough. Pale golden, moderate head, clean. The aroma is faintly malty, slightly sharp. On the palate it is crisp and light with a slightly sweet finish — pleasantly inoffensive rather than genuinely exciting. Heineken achieves its 0.0 by blending two separately brewed beers, which gives it more character than straight dealcoholisation, but it still sits below Lucky Saint in terms of flavour depth and body.
At around £1.00 – £1.50 a can it is the most affordable option in this category and the one most likely to be available wherever you happen to be.
